St. George Hotel Durham Tees Valley Airport

St. George Hotel at Durham Tees Valley Airport have come to the rescue of Tony and Neil by offering free accommodation for the night whilst up in the area in May. Following an arduous journey across to Belfast and back, via Sunderland to drop off parts into storage at the North East Aircraft Museum, the pair will have earned a rest, so we’re really grateful for St. George Hotel’s offer. I already know first-hand what a great hotel it is, and quite historic too. It is situated in the former RAF Officer’s Mess at what was RAF Middleton St. George. Today it’s the perfect...

Posted on Apr 18, 2010 in Featured articles, Other News, Project News | 0 comments

Our return trip to Belfast has been scheduled for mid-May to pick up parts from the Trident 2E G-AVFE there. We have had a generous offer from Intack Self Drive in Blackburn for half-price hire of a Luton van over the four days we’ll need it. Tony and Neil will take the van over to Belfast, whilst Matt, Peter and Phil Biley will travel by air from Newcastle to meet up and spend a day dismantling the parts we need. Tony and Neil will then drive them back to Sunderland, ready to use when G-ARPO arrives later this year. Thank you very much Intack for this offer, and to those who have...

Work has finally started in preparing the last complete Trident 1C airframe anywhere in the world for display in a museum. G-ARPO is our aircraft, and last week members from the Save The Trident team, including Tony Jarrett, Neil Lomax, Peter Foster and Phil Biley, met at Durham Tees Valley Airport to begin preparation work on the airframe. Following important and useful discussions with both Durham Tees Valley Airport authority, and members of Serco’s International Fire Training Centre, to secure arrangements to move the aircraft off site, work was begun on parts of the interior of...

We had some great news today. Stena Line have agreed to sponsor us by providing return travel for a Luton van between Stranraer and Belfast. This will enable us to take the parts from Trident 2E G-AVFE at Belfast International Airport and transport them back to the museum at Sunderland ready to become part of the restored Trident 1C G-ARPO at the North East Aircraft Museum. We will be making the trip in May, taking members of our team. We are naturally incredibly grateful to Stena Line for this gesture, which has solved a major headache for us and allows us to use our funds on restoring the...

Latest Progress – Meeting Hauliers and Airport

Posted on Apr 6, 2010 in Featured articles, Project News | 0 comments

Tony travelled to Durham Tees Valley Airport last week to meet with a couple of hauliers and crane reps to discuss the needs of the move. Being in the presence of G-ARPO made it easier to explain and discuss the plans and potential problems, and has enabled each of the companies to go away and put together quotes for their part. We are hoping to get some good prices as we are not flush with money to spend. This week, Tony and Neil will be meeting with the authorities at Durham Tees Valley, as well as Serco’s International Fire Training Centre, to go over the project plan, timescales,...
