Trident Cockpit Display Cabinet Finished

We put the finishing touches to the Trident cockpit display cabinet at the museum last weekend. This cabinet has the complete cockpit dashboard of former Trident 2E G-AVFG, which is kindly on loan to us to display inside the hangar at the North East Land, Sea and Air Museum. Now, thanks to help from our friends at Sticker Shop 103, we’ve adorned it with authentic logos from British European Airways and British Airways from the era that the Trident flew.   If you visit the museum, you’ll find this display inside the main aircraft hangar, on the rear wall.  ...

Trident Red One to London Documentary

A fascinating documentary charting a flight in a Hawker Siddeley Trident 1C of BEA has been unearthed on YouTube. Red One to London follows Trident G-ARPH on a flight from Amsterdam Schiphol to London Heathrow, following the crew and flight as it progresses from gate to gate. At all points in the flight you will hear air traffic control talking to the aircraft, and members of staff at both airports describe the flight and how the aircraft uses the Instrument Landing System to perform an autoland. There’s some great footage of the take-off and landing, and an interview with the late...

Former member Phil passes away

It’s with regret that we announce the passing of one of Save The Trident’s original members, Phil Biles, who died just before Christmas. Phil was formerly a firefighter at Durham Tees Valley Airport and joined our team through his friend and fellow member Peter Foster. He quickly made his mark on the project, particularly through the dismantling process as his natural hands-on approach proved a perfect fit to the many technical challenges we faced. His illness meant he wasn’t able to spend much time on the project since its move to Sunderland, but he was still a presence on...
