A view from the wing

Here’s a photo we just came across showing the view over the wing of a Trident at an airport in the early 1970s. But look a little closer… you’ll see that the registration painted on the wing of that Trident is G-ARPO – our very own aircraft! We love to see picture of G-ARPO in service, so if you have any in your collection please send them to...

8 Significant Pictures from G-ARPO’s Restoration

Looking back over the past nine years makes us realise how far we’ve come with our project to save Trident 1C G-ARPO. We still have a long way to go, of course, but here is a selection of pictures showing significant moments in the restoration so far…   As we found her at Teesside in 2009, after years in use as a fire trainer. A ladder is the only way into the cabin. The tail is lifted off the fuselage after cutting it free. Wings, having been detached, are loaded onto a trailer for transport to Sunderland. G-ARPO’s fuselage heads north on the A19 as it makes its way...

G-ARPO to Feature on CBeebies!

Our Trident, G-ARPO, will again feature on TV next week as it took part in a new episode of the CBeebies “My First” series. In it, a father will take his son to an air show for the first time. Here’s the synopsis: Join Jesse as he goes to an air show for the first time. Jesse is making paper aeroplanes with his family when Dad tells him they are going to an air show. First, Jesse and his family go to an air museum where they learn about different kinds of aircraft and what they’re used for. Jesse gets to see all kinds of aeroplanes and tries flying a helicopter. At...

Trident Cockpit Display Cabinet Finished

We put the finishing touches to the Trident cockpit display cabinet at the museum last weekend. This cabinet has the complete cockpit dashboard of former Trident 2E G-AVFG, which is kindly on loan to us to display inside the hangar at the North East Land, Sea and Air Museum. Now, thanks to help from our friends at Sticker Shop 103, we’ve adorned it with authentic logos from British European Airways and British Airways from the era that the Trident flew.   If you visit the museum, you’ll find this display inside the main aircraft hangar, on the rear wall.  ...

Trident Red One to London Documentary

A fascinating documentary charting a flight in a Hawker Siddeley Trident 1C of BEA has been unearthed on YouTube. Red One to London follows Trident G-ARPH on a flight from Amsterdam Schiphol to London Heathrow, following the crew and flight as it progresses from gate to gate. At all points in the flight you will hear air traffic control talking to the aircraft, and members of staff at both airports describe the flight and how the aircraft uses the Instrument Landing System to perform an autoland. There’s some great footage of the take-off and landing, and an interview with the late...

Video filmed aboard G-ARPO

Posted on Feb 19, 2016 in Featured, Other News | 0 comments

An interview with a young flight attendant about her new career and how it works flying for an airline was recently filmed aboard our Trident. You can watch the video below – there’s even a little walk around of G-ARPO’s interior towards the end of the video.   This is a great way we can use our aircraft for other purposes and we’d love to speak to anyone interested in filming or doing educational...
